A true original. Thank you for sharing your genius with the world; you’ve made a lifelong fan out of this American lady
My Aunty in the UK went to get her grandson a copy of ‘You so F*****g Rock’ she couldn’t bring herself to say the word to ask for it so she phoned her daughter and got her to say it over the phone!!!
My daughter turned me on to you and said, “Don’t you think grandma would have liked him?” The answer was, “Yes, she would have loved him!” My mom was a professional piano player and her favorite stuff to play was silly, old songs from the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s, but especially parodies. I grew up listening to her play crazy, little, unknown tunes, then sharing with my friends. I have so missed her and can’t begin to thank you enough for working hard to become famous so you could share this great musical niche.
I’m an agnostic in southern Oregon, USA…Maybe , I’m the only one. Today, I listened to White wine in the sun. It was the first time since I played it to the most wonderful Mum a man could ask for. She left this earth, last January. No, I don’t know where she went. But she sure did love that song. I played it for her last Christmas, when she was so ill. I just want to tell you thank you, for putting a smile and a tear to both of our faces.
I bought a park, this summer. No, its a first for me. I bought it, because Mum would have wanted me to. Mum used to swim there, with all us kids, in the best swimming hole in Oregon. . I’m naming it Merete’s Cove after my Mum.Its one of the worlds most beautiful places. I’m trying to build a beautiful bandstand there. Mum loved music. I welcome you to sing there someday. I know its a little crazy. But including you, there would be at least two Atheists near the stage. Three including my sweet daughter, Brook, who also loves your music. Maybe I dream too big……. Either way, My family will be listening to white wine in the sun, this Christmas, and thinking of Mum.
Hi Tim – My wife and I saw you in Thousand Oaks on Saturday and said “hello” afterwards. We’re the couple from Phoenix who mentioned to you that I played piano and sang at her over the Internet and in return she married me. Pretty good trade, honestly. We made it back safely, by the way. Anyway I just wanted to drop a note to say thank you for such a fantastic show, and your transformative influence on my life. I’m very very very happy to be able to say that I shook your hand, and I’m very very very sad that I declined to be in the picture that you took with my wife. Come back soon!

Hey Tim&Co.
I first saw u(tim) @ moorabbin town hall in 05 and was soooooo fu***ng impressed-u r a genius. My sister thinks ur weird and even though i sort of agree, i still think u r awsome-kEEP IT UP.
Hey hey tim, the donut shop that I work at (Puffin Fresh Whitfords City, Perth) just started distributing Canvas Bags. Well not canvas as such, but those big reusable hard plasticy ones. I’m not too sure what they’re actually made of, but I’m very glad, because I was previously getting told off by my boss for not offering customers plastic bags to put their multiple donuts in. ‘It can’t be that hard to just *carry* them, guys, Do it for the environment.’ But apparently there’s no room for environmental friendliness in the world of donut retail.
Well g2g, I’m off to work :D
was the photographer at your radio recording at the drill hall london on the 2 nov which was great fun…loved the song about pigs very funny, hope to catch a show at the duchess got some great shots for the bbc too!!!!
To Blake:
I really meant that i dont think
We get circumsised
You get circumsised
Why not get circumsised togethor would sound as good as.
We dont eat pigs etc.
Maybe i was wrong…
Your music has been with me through some tough times in America. I am a Black woman. I don’t have much hope for changing my stars. But hearing your excellent voice rock n rolling my troubles away… at least for a day… keeps me sane. I know you do the same for millions around the world. It was my birthday a few days ago. I turned 46. I hope to see you live again before I reach 50. I promised my niece (she’s always challenging me) that I would chase one dream this year. I hope I don’t sound too weird when I say, I want to sit in that future audience of Minchin fans and scream my head off for you again. My humble dream. Much love from Portland, Oregon USA.
Thanks for the positive in this sea of controversy. I liked your message so much I bought the book!
Hi Tim. Mike from Tampa here. Once you hit 70, you start thinking of things you’d like to do while you still can. My daughter and I saw your NYC TM & his Piano and London Songs the World Will Never Hear shows. Hard to to top that. Then it hit me. Dream big! Would you consider bringing back your Royal Albert Hall Orchestra show? I’m a tennis player. Your NYC and London shows coincided with the US Open and Wimbledon. It was much easier selling going across the pond to my velp, if I also got to attend one of the majors. Thanks. Mike
I’m thankful you came to Toowoomba. Watching real people with really amazing talent was a blast of fresh air, blowing away the junk that builds up from scrolling. Phew, you came in time. Thanks again xxxx
Dearest Tim, I just wanted to post a thank you / congratulations, to you and your team on the end of your tour; the gig in Toowoomba was the perfect finale! Thank you for sharing your new work with us tonight, we could all see what it meant to you, although I did have a pretty good view of your celebratory Hi-5 during the next number. I am just hoping that tonight you felt the love of an entire generation of students, from one of those special tax exempt organisations, here in Toowoomba. Starting them with ‘Storm’ in the middle years Philosophy elective, and always ending with your UWA speech for the Yr 12’s…I’m not saying that you are a ‘tool’, but you know what? You were a great tool! Someone, whose intelligence and wit opened the eyes of a generation, and more importantly, gave hope to those who thought, or were at a minimum, interested in thinking… Love your work – its importance simply can’t be measured!
Hi Tim, I was listening to White Wine in the Sun again today. It pops up in my social media memories all the time because I’ve shared it so much over the years. My Dad really loved Christmas — he loved having everyone around him. He passed away in 2019, on the 17th of December, at 80 years of age. He just wanted to make it to one more Christmas. Upright came out that same month. The song Carry You, and the series itself, absolutely broke me… but somehow carried me through as well. I don’t think I really grieved in the way I expected to until this year. Suddenly, it’s hitting me like a train.I really miss him. This Christmas it will be just my Mum and me. I’m towing my little 1986 Viscount caravan up to the lake at Wooroonook, Victoria, to try to make something meaningful of the day for her. She’s 81 now and struggling to get around. My brother, sister-in-law, niece, nephew, and even my sons won’t be there. It’s going to be a hard one. Christmas just doesn’t bring me joy anymore. But still, I’ll sip white wine in the sun, think of my Dad, and try to make a happy memory with Mum — because I know her time is drawing close too. I just wanted to say thank you. Your music has a way of touching people at their deepest places, and these songs have been a part of my healing more than you could know. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas with your family and I hope you keep writing the kind of music that reaches people when they need it most. Thank you ~ Megan xo
Dear Tim. We went to your concert in Canberra tonight. We have to drive 2 +1/2 hours and stay overnight. It was very well worth that effort. There were many moments that made us laugh and cry and think deeply about my life and where to from here. We are in our senior years and enjoyed it all immensely. We have followed your career from the beginning and as rusted on nerds will continue to do so. I saw Matilda the musical live in Sydney and enjoyed that very much. Would love to see Groundhog if it comes our way. Thanks again for all the music and the chat. Loved it all. Love to you and your family. Coral
I saw your show in Brisbane on Friday with my partner. I have never seen a crowd so obedient to putting their phones down. We all desperately wanted to photograph the real life Tim Minchin for ourselves. Many took the sneaky blurry shots that will forever be the bragging point over Christmas dinner. The recovery from accidentally entertaining the comedian in the crowd, to the perfectly balanced sound was amazing. Thank you for giving us almost an hour of extra entertainment. Absolutely worth it. I’m so glad I saw this before seeing Metallica tickets. It would have been a hard choice. Probably would have still chosen you. This is a big tick on my life bucket list.
Hi Tim. Mike from Tampa here. My daughter and I loved yer show at the Apollo. Matilda at Cambridge there’s… no words. The London sites and a day at Wimbledon after 7 hours on the que. Could’ve been perfect, butt…You didn’t do Airport Piano, so this is all your fault. I had to do it. I’m a 70, mediocre singer, though energetic and enthusiastic. I sang Airport Piano at Karaoke last night. Sounds ok but… I live in a nudist resort. My 70 y/o 140lb nekid scrawny bod singing my favorite song. I’d include a vid, except cameras are not allowed…
Hi. I just wanted to say. I’m finally listening to “Time Machine” (I was going to do it sooner, but it felt so weird to do so right after Tom died. I felt like I had to listen to him for awhile first). And I got to The Song of The Masochocist… and broke down crying. When “Apart Together” came out it was not a good time. For anyone really. I’m in the US and it was just. SO BAD. And then that album came out and I listened on repeat. And it made things better. I would just lay in bed as it felt like we were in the 10th, 11th, 12th month of the apocalypse and would cry as songs like “The Absence of You” comforted me against the absence of the WORLD. Because that was it, the whole WORLD was a hole and it was missing and everything was horrible. And “Apart Together” was what kept ME together. And listening to “Time Machine”, 4 tracks in, and I broke down sobbing because I had somehow forgotten just how much hearing your music when I’m in a dark place, like I am again, can just mend me and make it ok. Even for a little bit. And I had always hoped someday I could tell you that in person but, I’m an American, nope, so here I am. Anyway, thanks. For putting this box here and for making all the music you do. I’ve been listening for a long time, and you’ve gotten me through so much. Thank you for everything.
This is silly because I don’t really think you will read it in person but I still want to say Thank you for saving my marriage! We’ve been through a lot and there are so many times I’ve just wanted to walk away from everything. It took me a long time to discover you (since I live in Sweden where “everyone” says “Heh, Tim who?”) but the two first songs I heard were White wine in the sun (which reminded me of the importance of family) and Not perfect (which reminded me that I am pretty nice and can stand myself). Your rock ‘n’ roll nerding makes me happy and your love songs make me sad and happy at the same time and I confess the huuuuge confirmation biases ? My 50th birthday was coming up and I felt trapped, old and unloved. I thought about spending it in Paris all by myself. Then you unveiled your UK tour! Bam! I bought tickets to Edinburgh and told my husband that he could come with me if he promised to try to understand WHY I really had to go and he was not allowed ruin it! He prepared by listening to the songs and our kids gave him “clues and keys to mummy” and he nailed them all. I haven’t felt so loved in years! And to be there seeing and hearing you live, sharing tears of laughter and touched hearts, feeling his eyes on me when I was ALIVE for the first time in years and holding his hand to all the lovesongs (including the boobs ?)… yes, you saved us. Thank you ??
…and here is the rest…

God, that gives those words a whole other meaning… Tim. you evil evil man…
…kidding! *hugs?*
Dear Timmy,
It’s the 2nd of April……. 18 days to go!!!!!!!
Woo Hoo
4 days till I see Sarah and Blake YAY!
;)
Any tips on meeting the No. 1 Minchin?
Caroline xxxx
Tips on encountering a #1 Fan…
– Remain calm and avoid sudden movements.
– If you spot a fan and the fan is unaware of you, detour quickly and quietly away.
– Never run from a fan. Running may elicit a chase from an otherwise non-aggressive fan, and since they can run faster than 30 mph, you have no chance of outrunning them.
– Never feed or toss food to a fan.
– Throw something onto the ground (like a camera) if the fan pursues you, as it may be distracted by this and allow you to escape.
Hope this helps!
Dont drool on her arm…. she’ll latch on to you if you do.
Dear Kirsty and Blake,
Thanks so much for the information. I will keep it in mind.
Okay don’t drool, run, make any sudden movements, feed her (sounds like the plot of gremlins). Remember to toss things on ground to distr…. ahhhhhhhh
stop typing you fool she can see your fingers moving……..
Timmy, please sing, play, do something, anything, to distract her…….
I’ll let you all know how it goes if I survive.
No Sarah, really we weren’t talking about you…honestly ;)
Just saw you on the dig. Never have i got straight up and gone to the computer for more info…Bravo. Your style reminded me of my own endevour exept you have tallent. out. I do sum hip hop[ for fun but i write accoustic folk for my passion of music. Peace
I’m not toooo scary REALLY!!!… I won’t bite you I promise….
Maybe….
but, I would like it if you throw me some food.
Life at the site!!
*waits patiently for a new post from Tim*
Oh and M… just read your story.
So along with funny, warm, friendly and loyal… we’re adding creepy to the list of fan assets?
Just curious.. I’m working on my creepy face now. *waggles eyebrows a few times but fails to look ominous or creepy.. but more like a confused terrier*
*Makes note to self*
Bring food Friday for Sarah.
And something nice for Blake.
Hello Timmy….16 days….Woo Hoo!!!!!!
Dear Tim,
Saw your shows in Adelaide (Laughapooloza and So f*cking rock). Took my sister (who was overdue to pop) to your last night and I’m here to tell you convulsive laughter doesn’t trigger labour.. but apparently helped with the braxton hicks!!
Brilliant. Thank you!!
I wonder if Tim would induce braxton hicks, even if you weren’t even pregnant?
There was a man after the Tunbridge Wells show who told Tim he laughed so much, he almost gave birth to something. I think this may go towards evidence for Tim bringing on false labour.
I’d be very distressed if this happened to me. There’s a huge leap between having aching cheeks and almost giving birth.
Usually.
I think Tim should commission some research into this to find out if there is a market for comedy songs to accompany labour!
And BTW – little girl, 7.5 pounds in old money born on Easter Sunday…
Awwww yay, well done on becoming an Aunt! Hope your sister and the baby are ok :)
Dear Timmy,
I’ve done a Timmy.
This morning I was running up some steps outside and I wrenched my ankle
:(
It’s better now but still sore. Funnily enough walking on it seems to make it feel better. Surprisingly still, I did not rip my tights??? Weird.
The day has been vastly improved my being able to text Sarah and tell her everything. We gush to each other about you.
Hope you are well and your toe is feeling better. Paws is right – wave it at a doctor. You should have had it x-rayed by now!
Kirsty, wake up, some mothering is desperately required.
I loving getting Kirsty to nag and mother you. It makes me laugh
*on high cos met Russell Howard on Sunday night – very cute*
Can’t wait to see you in melbourne. I think I’m down to single digits…. You will be as well if you don’t go to the doctor… Tell me, do you have health insurance (my sales targets are killing me)?
Lots of Love
Caroline xxxxxxxx
ps. I can’t write short messages, I just caaaan’t…. sorry
Tim and Caroline… you both take care of your respective injuries. Rest yourselves.
Um… drink juice?
I’m glad accidentally injuring oneself is known as “doing a Timmy” rather than “doing a Kirsty”.
Kirsty, drink juice is your answer to every ailment.
But it may well work. So…yes.
I’m not entirely sure what my point was, there.
LOVED YOU on Spicks and Specks!!!!!
Sarah text me TWO minutes after the show ended – admirable restraint for her.
Loved that you were so right about the multiple choice, loved the top you were wearing, you looked so bloody sexy, so sweet, so cute, so adorable, so kittenish!!!!!!! Yes, timmy looked like a kitten.
You were AMAZING!!!!!!
The song was so sweet… I um … taped it with my phone…Kirsty just finished listening to it… *mas*
Loved the ending ‘and he’s from New Zealand’ and then you laugh. Love that laugh.
I’ve written a blog about it on my myspace page filled with piccies from the show taken by my crappy camera.
*Squeals louder than at the newsagency*
Love you
Love Caroline xxxxxxx
Following your latest Spicks and Specks appearance, your myspace fanbase has got so large that it has collapsed in on itself and imploded.
Or something like that.
Myspace is being a bastard, anyway. Which is why I’m posting this here, rather than there.
Tim… you have been horrifically misquoted here: http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=260293
“I took my first album, my only non-comic album, into record companies and they’d say, ‘This is really good but we don’t know what to do with you, one minute you’re doing a song that’s really serious and suddenly you have a song that says, ‘my heart belongs to an eight-year-old lesbian’, what’s that about?'”
Paedophile.
You were right Kirsty.
If all the paedophiles were that good-looking the kids would never complain.
I wouldn’t have.
That quote of mine is completely out of context, Caroline! I said that about a completely different alleged paedophile!
But to be fair Kirsty, that particular paedophile does have association with Tim. Heh heh.
*alleged paedophile
Nice save, Hannah. You were almost sued then.
Caroline is right. That shirt looked f**king sexy! and your song made me laugh and smile. Especially the last line.
I ditched karaoke last night just to watch it… A big sacrafice for me… but definately worth it!
ALMOST, Kirsty, almost. But not. But nearly. *nod*
What AM I talking about?
I should go to bed instead of waffling on in an almost completely nonsensical manner on the internet.
Tim, shame you’re not coming to Brisvegas this time round mate. Your work is deadset legendary. Even our 4yr old appreciates the song “Canvas Bags”!! Of course we watch the volume to ensure she doesn’t learn some of lifes choicer words too early!!!
hi nice site.
Hey Timmy!
My friends and I met you after your friday 13th show in Perth (by the way, the falling sandbag was genious).
Remember me – Karina, red and black top, “celebrity sweat”?
Fucking fantastic show, mate. I am so glad you performed ‘Angry’ and ‘Dark Side’.
Enjoy the rest of the tour :)
Du musst ein Fachmann sein – wirklich guter Aufstellungsort, den du hast!
“arch” says: “You must be an expert – really good website* you have!”
* (not literal translation, but that’s what he meant, i guess. He could have just been referring to the guestbook.)
Spam! In German!
i thought it said
You must be a specialist – really good place of assembly, which you have
but that was because i only want to prove kirsty wrong.
anyway, hers sounds more likely.
damn.
grammar.
fuck you altavista
No, no, dbg, we can both be right. Yours is just a more literal translation.
“Aufstellungsort” DOES mean “place of assembly”, but it’s used here to mean an online gathering place, like this website or this guestbook (which is why I wasn’t sure which it was referring to).
Either way, it’s still spam. :-(
but its such pointless spam.
im going to stay happy in my world where arch just enjoys tim minchin for things that don’t need a great understanding of the English language. who knows, maybe tim has a huge German fan base?
im just saying hello to all of tim’s German fans
hallo zu allen deutschen Ventilatoren des tim. Willkommens zu seinem wundervollen Ort der Versammlung kann ich einige Ihrer kühlen Hüte haben.
Dbg, you realise you just said hi to all his ventilators?
Ventilators=Fans
*pissing myself*
Yes I indeed spend too much time on msn with Kirsty
yes i do realize that, they need more of a mention, they are the silent heroes of this world.
I think we need to see a new photo of Violet.
I am intrigued by your interview on Nova 93.7, and now I want to see if she really is hideously butch, or if it’s all lies and she’s actually beautiful!
I’m sure she’s beautiful, she takes after her daddy.
Unless she REALLY takes after him, beard and all.
A beard could add to the butch lesbian theory.
Though I think it would transport her from butch lesbian to freaky baby of the century.
Hey Tim! Where can we get a mp3 of the Happy Little Africans song you performed at the Melbourne Comedy Festival this year?
test
test based spam.
mmmmmmm tasty.
Peace people
We love you
love your comedy and piano playing.
Havent heard anyone as good as you for a long time.
Just re-discovered you (after seeing you do the Tickled Pink gig and really wishing I’d noted you’re name down!)
Me and my husband just can’t stop listening to you on YouTube and telling pretty much everyone we see that you rock!
I hope to see you this side of the world soon, I will definitely be trying to get tickets to wherever you end up. Liverpool would be good – hint hint!
Thanks for actually proving that there are still some good comedians out there, you have a great voice and .. well, I’m just horrifically jealous of your musical talent in general!
**wonders why she can never just write something short and to the point**
Thank You
Hello Moonfire,
Welcome. I can’t write anthing short either.
Except for after I met Timmy for the first time when I just wrote ‘thank-you’ on his myspace page.
Timmy that song that you did at midnight lullabies was amazing, I spent the last half an hour holding my breath with wonder and then crying my eyes out.
What was the name of the song again?? If I can’t get hold of you singing it, I at least want to hear someone, anyone sing it!
Kirsty and Hannah and Sarah are all Estatic with their pressies – thanks for letting me be the messenger. Hannah and Kirsty know perfectly well that the t-shirts are gifts from God.
Thanks once again.
I will try to bring less bags next time but I’m not promising anything.
– C xxx
Hello all
I’m not easy to offend. But I’m offended by the “forcedsixe” spam.
Just… ugh.
*idly waves wand which is powerless here*
I had one night only to indulge in the Melbourne Comedy Festival this year, after pissing thousands away on the thing in previous years. Better the devil you know, I figured, so once again I saw Tim Minchin, and I’m glad I did. I shouted a Minchin virgin, who is now a disciple also. Afterwards we stood on the balcony of the Town Hall bar as if possessed, quietly chanting “take your canvas bags, take your canvas bags…”
I thought the show was an improvement on last year’s – all the new material was great, the keyboard work was mind-blowing. Love the pathos of the failed rock star song. How ironic that you’ll probably wind up becoming the very thing you’re now the antithesis of.
I also think you handled the accidental black-out very well. Evan Dando would’ve thrown a tanty and stormed off-stage. But you were a true professional, and fully entitled to drop the C word. Why don’t you team up with Ben Folds and churn out a mega-hit? That I would LOVE to see. Next year, Tim, you’ll be playing Rod Laver Arena and it’ll still be sold out. You’re the most exciting act I’ve seen in years.
Good luck with the BBC thing. Just don’t ever get half-arsed about your live shows and phone in your performances like so many successful comics do at the festival. Somehow I suspect that won’t happen, because you have more talent in your little finger than any of the ‘big names’ at the festival. Tim is God? Well, he’s my god. In fact I’m going outside right now to shit that all over my flatmate’s Gemini. Nah, second thoughts – I’ll get her cat to do it.
I just made a big mistake.
I went to watch Hallelujah again, cos I missed it.
It turns out that, even when I think I’m strong and composed, it still makes me cry a bit.
I’m not sure if this indicates that you are an amazing singer who gives a really emotional performance, or whether it shows my emotional wellbeing isn’t entirely intact.
I like to think it’s the former :)
If you ever decide to do an impromptu serious song, and I happen to be there, could you give me some warning so I can hunt down a big box of tissues, just in case?!
Sarah, trust me, when Tim sings a serious song ALWAYS bring tissues. I can’t watch Hallelujah without weeping. And it’s all Tim.
At Midnight Lullabies he did this amazing song that I can’t remember the name of… just broke my heart. Then Fiona O’Loughlin did ‘Danny Boy’ and Queenie van de Zandt did ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’. I spent the last half an hour in floods of tears, borrowing tissues.
However, in the case of a certain Elvis Presley song, bring contraception.
‘a little less conversation, a little more action please’
Yvette you are a wonder…
Tim is my new god. (not that there was an old one.)
that is a truism.MAS
You are rather awesome (and actually deserving of the true sense of that word, not the constantly thrown around, meaningless sense of the word.) Your last gig at the Melb Comedy Festival was fanTASTIC and I am still in…er…awe. Thank you for signing my badge. You rock.
