A true original. Thank you for sharing your genius with the world; you’ve made a lifelong fan out of this American lady
My Aunty in the UK went to get her grandson a copy of ‘You so F*****g Rock’ she couldn’t bring herself to say the word to ask for it so she phoned her daughter and got her to say it over the phone!!!
My daughter turned me on to you and said, “Don’t you think grandma would have liked him?” The answer was, “Yes, she would have loved him!” My mom was a professional piano player and her favorite stuff to play was silly, old songs from the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s, but especially parodies. I grew up listening to her play crazy, little, unknown tunes, then sharing with my friends. I have so missed her and can’t begin to thank you enough for working hard to become famous so you could share this great musical niche.
I’m an agnostic in southern Oregon, USA…Maybe , I’m the only one. Today, I listened to White wine in the sun. It was the first time since I played it to the most wonderful Mum a man could ask for. She left this earth, last January. No, I don’t know where she went. But she sure did love that song. I played it for her last Christmas, when she was so ill. I just want to tell you thank you, for putting a smile and a tear to both of our faces.
I bought a park, this summer. No, its a first for me. I bought it, because Mum would have wanted me to. Mum used to swim there, with all us kids, in the best swimming hole in Oregon. . I’m naming it Merete’s Cove after my Mum.Its one of the worlds most beautiful places. I’m trying to build a beautiful bandstand there. Mum loved music. I welcome you to sing there someday. I know its a little crazy. But including you, there would be at least two Atheists near the stage. Three including my sweet daughter, Brook, who also loves your music. Maybe I dream too big……. Either way, My family will be listening to white wine in the sun, this Christmas, and thinking of Mum.
Hi Tim – My wife and I saw you in Thousand Oaks on Saturday and said “hello” afterwards. We’re the couple from Phoenix who mentioned to you that I played piano and sang at her over the Internet and in return she married me. Pretty good trade, honestly. We made it back safely, by the way. Anyway I just wanted to drop a note to say thank you for such a fantastic show, and your transformative influence on my life. I’m very very very happy to be able to say that I shook your hand, and I’m very very very sad that I declined to be in the picture that you took with my wife. Come back soon!

Hey Tim&Co.
I first saw u(tim) @ moorabbin town hall in 05 and was soooooo fu***ng impressed-u r a genius. My sister thinks ur weird and even though i sort of agree, i still think u r awsome-kEEP IT UP.
Hey hey tim, the donut shop that I work at (Puffin Fresh Whitfords City, Perth) just started distributing Canvas Bags. Well not canvas as such, but those big reusable hard plasticy ones. I’m not too sure what they’re actually made of, but I’m very glad, because I was previously getting told off by my boss for not offering customers plastic bags to put their multiple donuts in. ‘It can’t be that hard to just *carry* them, guys, Do it for the environment.’ But apparently there’s no room for environmental friendliness in the world of donut retail.
Well g2g, I’m off to work :D
was the photographer at your radio recording at the drill hall london on the 2 nov which was great fun…loved the song about pigs very funny, hope to catch a show at the duchess got some great shots for the bbc too!!!!
To Blake:
I really meant that i dont think
We get circumsised
You get circumsised
Why not get circumsised togethor would sound as good as.
We dont eat pigs etc.
Maybe i was wrong…
Your music has been with me through some tough times in America. I am a Black woman. I don’t have much hope for changing my stars. But hearing your excellent voice rock n rolling my troubles away… at least for a day… keeps me sane. I know you do the same for millions around the world. It was my birthday a few days ago. I turned 46. I hope to see you live again before I reach 50. I promised my niece (she’s always challenging me) that I would chase one dream this year. I hope I don’t sound too weird when I say, I want to sit in that future audience of Minchin fans and scream my head off for you again. My humble dream. Much love from Portland, Oregon USA.
Thanks for the positive in this sea of controversy. I liked your message so much I bought the book!
Hi Tim. Mike from Tampa here. Once you hit 70, you start thinking of things you’d like to do while you still can. My daughter and I saw your NYC TM & his Piano and London Songs the World Will Never Hear shows. Hard to to top that. Then it hit me. Dream big! Would you consider bringing back your Royal Albert Hall Orchestra show? I’m a tennis player. Your NYC and London shows coincided with the US Open and Wimbledon. It was much easier selling going across the pond to my velp, if I also got to attend one of the majors. Thanks. Mike
I’m thankful you came to Toowoomba. Watching real people with really amazing talent was a blast of fresh air, blowing away the junk that builds up from scrolling. Phew, you came in time. Thanks again xxxx
Dearest Tim, I just wanted to post a thank you / congratulations, to you and your team on the end of your tour; the gig in Toowoomba was the perfect finale! Thank you for sharing your new work with us tonight, we could all see what it meant to you, although I did have a pretty good view of your celebratory Hi-5 during the next number. I am just hoping that tonight you felt the love of an entire generation of students, from one of those special tax exempt organisations, here in Toowoomba. Starting them with ‘Storm’ in the middle years Philosophy elective, and always ending with your UWA speech for the Yr 12’s…I’m not saying that you are a ‘tool’, but you know what? You were a great tool! Someone, whose intelligence and wit opened the eyes of a generation, and more importantly, gave hope to those who thought, or were at a minimum, interested in thinking… Love your work – its importance simply can’t be measured!
Hi Tim, I was listening to White Wine in the Sun again today. It pops up in my social media memories all the time because I’ve shared it so much over the years. My Dad really loved Christmas — he loved having everyone around him. He passed away in 2019, on the 17th of December, at 80 years of age. He just wanted to make it to one more Christmas. Upright came out that same month. The song Carry You, and the series itself, absolutely broke me… but somehow carried me through as well. I don’t think I really grieved in the way I expected to until this year. Suddenly, it’s hitting me like a train.I really miss him. This Christmas it will be just my Mum and me. I’m towing my little 1986 Viscount caravan up to the lake at Wooroonook, Victoria, to try to make something meaningful of the day for her. She’s 81 now and struggling to get around. My brother, sister-in-law, niece, nephew, and even my sons won’t be there. It’s going to be a hard one. Christmas just doesn’t bring me joy anymore. But still, I’ll sip white wine in the sun, think of my Dad, and try to make a happy memory with Mum — because I know her time is drawing close too. I just wanted to say thank you. Your music has a way of touching people at their deepest places, and these songs have been a part of my healing more than you could know. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas with your family and I hope you keep writing the kind of music that reaches people when they need it most. Thank you ~ Megan xo
Dear Tim. We went to your concert in Canberra tonight. We have to drive 2 +1/2 hours and stay overnight. It was very well worth that effort. There were many moments that made us laugh and cry and think deeply about my life and where to from here. We are in our senior years and enjoyed it all immensely. We have followed your career from the beginning and as rusted on nerds will continue to do so. I saw Matilda the musical live in Sydney and enjoyed that very much. Would love to see Groundhog if it comes our way. Thanks again for all the music and the chat. Loved it all. Love to you and your family. Coral
I saw your show in Brisbane on Friday with my partner. I have never seen a crowd so obedient to putting their phones down. We all desperately wanted to photograph the real life Tim Minchin for ourselves. Many took the sneaky blurry shots that will forever be the bragging point over Christmas dinner. The recovery from accidentally entertaining the comedian in the crowd, to the perfectly balanced sound was amazing. Thank you for giving us almost an hour of extra entertainment. Absolutely worth it. I’m so glad I saw this before seeing Metallica tickets. It would have been a hard choice. Probably would have still chosen you. This is a big tick on my life bucket list.
Hi Tim. Mike from Tampa here. My daughter and I loved yer show at the Apollo. Matilda at Cambridge there’s… no words. The London sites and a day at Wimbledon after 7 hours on the que. Could’ve been perfect, butt…You didn’t do Airport Piano, so this is all your fault. I had to do it. I’m a 70, mediocre singer, though energetic and enthusiastic. I sang Airport Piano at Karaoke last night. Sounds ok but… I live in a nudist resort. My 70 y/o 140lb nekid scrawny bod singing my favorite song. I’d include a vid, except cameras are not allowed…
Hi. I just wanted to say. I’m finally listening to “Time Machine” (I was going to do it sooner, but it felt so weird to do so right after Tom died. I felt like I had to listen to him for awhile first). And I got to The Song of The Masochocist… and broke down crying. When “Apart Together” came out it was not a good time. For anyone really. I’m in the US and it was just. SO BAD. And then that album came out and I listened on repeat. And it made things better. I would just lay in bed as it felt like we were in the 10th, 11th, 12th month of the apocalypse and would cry as songs like “The Absence of You” comforted me against the absence of the WORLD. Because that was it, the whole WORLD was a hole and it was missing and everything was horrible. And “Apart Together” was what kept ME together. And listening to “Time Machine”, 4 tracks in, and I broke down sobbing because I had somehow forgotten just how much hearing your music when I’m in a dark place, like I am again, can just mend me and make it ok. Even for a little bit. And I had always hoped someday I could tell you that in person but, I’m an American, nope, so here I am. Anyway, thanks. For putting this box here and for making all the music you do. I’ve been listening for a long time, and you’ve gotten me through so much. Thank you for everything.
This is silly because I don’t really think you will read it in person but I still want to say Thank you for saving my marriage! We’ve been through a lot and there are so many times I’ve just wanted to walk away from everything. It took me a long time to discover you (since I live in Sweden where “everyone” says “Heh, Tim who?”) but the two first songs I heard were White wine in the sun (which reminded me of the importance of family) and Not perfect (which reminded me that I am pretty nice and can stand myself). Your rock ‘n’ roll nerding makes me happy and your love songs make me sad and happy at the same time and I confess the huuuuge confirmation biases ? My 50th birthday was coming up and I felt trapped, old and unloved. I thought about spending it in Paris all by myself. Then you unveiled your UK tour! Bam! I bought tickets to Edinburgh and told my husband that he could come with me if he promised to try to understand WHY I really had to go and he was not allowed ruin it! He prepared by listening to the songs and our kids gave him “clues and keys to mummy” and he nailed them all. I haven’t felt so loved in years! And to be there seeing and hearing you live, sharing tears of laughter and touched hearts, feeling his eyes on me when I was ALIVE for the first time in years and holding his hand to all the lovesongs (including the boobs ?)… yes, you saved us. Thank you ??
…and here is the rest…

Come to Broome Tim!
That is all!
Oh, and your Awesome
Now, That is all!
I wonder if this comment will turn up on a google search…
hi! I heard your song on radio2 the other day, “Only a ginger can call another ginger ginger”. Oh how I laughed, and tearful yes, because all at one and at last, I have a status! Yes, a ‘hood’ a ‘posse’ and need no longer fear arbitrary hate crimes in the name of colour prejudice! No longer will my poor minority status be ridiculed by school children, and those of a school child mentality who should really be put down for the good of society or at least put to work in the fields or some such… technology took hard labour away from us you know, and looks what’s happened, I ask you, if we took those socially dysfunctional plebs and put them in the feilds, in the quarries, would they have the energy left to bastardise our language, society and culture? NOOOO I hear you cry, no, indeed, they would not, no sir. Okie all that’s mine, but you can borrow it if you like, Minchin, but only because you herald my cause. I’ve got more where that came from too ;) Pass the black stuff…
When are you coming back to Australia? We miss you!
Fuck the chit chat about how amazing you are, (cause you are), i just really want to know if you plan on coming to the US to perform, perhaps near chicago, or even venture to Illinois State University. I’m in an improv comedy group called Improv Mafia, and we love to do improvised songs and we plan on doing an improvised musical in spring of ’09. I know i would, and i’m sure once my fellow improvisers learn of you more, they would love to meet you if that is possible. But since i have no idea if you are coming to the US, or to chicago, or to ISU, i guess i’ll just have to hope for a show at some time so i can attend.
Have a good day, if you want one.
Yay! Coming to see you in London tomorrow.
My friend wants you to do a show in Finland. You could probably stay with her if you need to. You have met before you spoke about recycling in Finland for some reason.
If your feeling like something a little more relaxed and not too huge you should come to woodford folk festival, its west of brisbane, reasonably warm and … well i suppose you could sing and what not too. Australia misses you!
Came to see you in London last night!!!
Awesome show, probably coming to see you again in Reading as well!
Have never laughed so hard in my life!
Thank you!!!!!!!!!
I saw you (on film) for the first time a few days ago and you rock. Trying to find a way of getting o one of your shows soon. Also, if you go anywhere near Seattle, my Uncle puts on a party at his property and they get lots of people and bands and stuff. I know they would love you so….would be cool. And I know it’s not cookies, but I make a good cake if you want one :) lol. xx
Fantastic stuff! I saw you in London and bought your dvd straight after, and now tim minchin mania is spreading my school (woodhouse college in london) and we all think you’re fantastic!
How excited are you about the Large Hadron Collider??! So awesome! Talk about science for science’s sake. I know that the world isn’t going to end, but I just find it hilarious that there’s a minuscule chance of something absolutely catastrophic happening, and it’s still going ahead. That’s just fan-bloody-tastic. They’d better find a fourth dimension though – that’d be SWEET.
Tim,
Firstly, I’d like you to know that you fucking rock! Although you were probably already aware of that… But more importantly, I’d like to say a genuine thank you. Your show was easily the best thing I saw the entire fringe and both awed and inspired me. I was feeling pretty down for a week or so before I came to your show after a particularly harsh review I got for my fringe show from some conceited arsehole called Chris Palmer. I’ve really only just started doing comedy properly and was part of a free show, which was why such a malicious review was so heart-breaking, and I was seriously considering giving it all up. But your inspired song about Phil Daoust cheered me up no-end and made me realise that these jumped-up bastard critics have really got their heads so far up their own arses that they can’t see what’s funny and what’s not. So fuck ’em. And I’m gonna carry on doing what I love because it’s one of the few things in life that give me a real buzz, energy and excitement. Not sure if you get the chance to read through all of these but if you do get this far, thanks a million Tim, and if you do get the time I’d really appreciate any advice or guidance you’ve got for a hopeful young comic :)
Will no doubt come and see you again when you’re next performing near me…
Charlie x
Still no sign of you in Dublin! I’ve looked everywhere and you’re not here! Please come.
I like you – you’re lovely. x
The Canvas Bag song was THE highlight of Latitude Festival for me! Can’t wait to see a whole show with just you in Norwich on 8th November excited! =) Tell me what cookies you like and I will bring you some…
Come to ireland ya mad yolk. we would love your style of comedy here. where like that and we drink by the barrell load. so if your crap we will still laugh. Good Man!!!
Hi Tim! I’m sure you already know how awesome you are, but I just wanted to say that I think so too. You have great talent, a great sense of humour, and truly great hair.
Keep being awesome.
x3
I love you. Thats all I wanted to say, but not in a crazy physco stalker kind of way, but more in an, “I am inspired to dance and smile and kiss little babies” kind of way. Thank you for that. By the way, Im from Jacksonville, Florida. US, and if you could do a show anywhere close to here I would give my… well, i would give up something to be there. So I guess I had more to say than I love you after all…
hello thar :)
I wasnt sure as to where to put this so i went with here.
I was just curious as to how much of your music is improv around the songs chords. Particularly in Mercedes Colt one get the impression that your improvising under the lyrics (whilst doing a hundred other things all at once.. amazing). It would be really helpful with working out some of your music.
thx very much
hello ,tim just wanna say your a great artist keep up the good work, have seen you on spicks and speks and the side show with paul mcdermot just bought your dvd so live and is so funny ,ps come back to oz and tour (adelaide) wanna see you live .keep writing and performing
Minchin, get a haircut! report to Carroll, get that keyboard cleaned and for god’s sake get rid of that hubristic website. I mean seeeking vainglorious praise from an unsuspecting public handfed on You tube and CD’s/ DVDD and calculated commercial insults .
really, why ,you mean that indicates intelligence!! I want real anarchy (think john cleese’s academe’s) and a shade of W.C Fields. After all comedy is satanic (Baudelaire!) and you might just manage to meld a dracularian werewolf (the mange)with a peckinpah horror (aka Monty P). now practice your declensions, and NO More ARPEGGIO’s or Frank Z may just release some post apocalyptic “hot rocks”. Really, camp sensibilities and climate change, I mean standards, minchin, please !!! thiose uncouth colonials might even gain a thing or to from you, I wish a musical fatwah on you: saxaphonically speaking
:D I Love You :D And Dont Listen To Him \/ Your Hair Rocks :D
Can’t wait to see you in Elmwood Hall, Belfast. It’s going to be one hell of a fun night. :D
Melbourne is a little greyer in the face without you Tim, and WA keeps running out of gas- they need your methane. Come home for a holiday coz the beaches rock even rockier than you do.
*
i want to come to your house and give you cookies! But seriously, if i say, came round a week on Friday you could teach me how to play piano?
Thanks to your music, i do actually take my canvas bags to the supermarket now and the impending doom of work is lessened every morning by your lovely voice/piano combo in the car. Keep up the outstanding work! x
You should come to Chicago. Your satirical style is something that not many people can really achieve. Id love to see on of your shows live.
Hey :) THANK YOU, that’s all really. You have gone some way to rebuilding my faith in intelligent life on this funny little planet and ‘some people have it worse…’ has been a tonic to listen to with all the crap this bitch of a life has thrown lately. Kudos to you Minchie, you are THE MAN! Can’t wait till Nov 13th ;) From one ginge to another… Thanks ginger :p
Hey, I liked it when you did all that looping shit with the pedals, now you’ve gone all x-factor and all of that is done on a backing track. Take your canvas bags, for example, was great when you used the loop thing. I’m coming to Southhampton (have already seen the show in London) so please use the loop thing there, its an awesome part of the show and I miss it.
And please do two encores, I hate leaving in tears after that (so fucking lovely) Christmas song… maybe end with inflatable you or something equally chirpy. I’m going to cry now just thinking about it.
When are you coming back to America?!?!? I’m up to my farking eyeballs in Presidential election news and I have an overwhelming need to laugh at someone that won’t be running the country in a few months.
I’ve made two batches of cookies recently, and I haven’t given either of them to you. Apologies. They were bloody yummy, though.
ohhhh cant wait until you come to the fast city belfast lol my friend english caroline (who you know slightly)has told me that i am to touch your hair and get my pic taken with you after the show do you know what ur letting yourself in for?
ps sorry for the un grammatically correct text language that i seem to have sprouted!
So I was thinking…. maybe you’re not that good at geography (you can’t be good at everything) so just telling you to come to Dublin isn’t good enough. Dublin is in Ireland – next door to the UK – you’ll be in Belfast anyway and its only a couple of hours drive down the motorway. You know loads of Irish comedians; Neil Delamere, David O’Doherty, Jason Byrne etc so you could probably stay with one of them! Sorted! when are you coming?
You Sir,
Should Come to the U.S. Specifically Indiana, the middle of nowhere. :D
We’d love you to paint this dull canvas we live in with a bit of color!
MAGIC HAPPENS!
hehe
your a legend
thanks for being who you are
You should come to Mildura, Victoria, Australia
Mucho Upset, Been a fan for a long time, your UK your Hull :( may hbave to travel to leeds to see you lol. x
Saw this and thought of you…
Million Dollar Mind Reader, five, Sept 25, 9pm
Profile of psychic Derek Ogilvie, who claims he can read the minds of infants who are too young to communicate verbally – is he a total quack? To be fair he allows himself to undergo a series of controlled experiments to test his alleged abilities. He faces sceptic James Randi, an investigator of the paranormal who has offered $1m to anyone who can prove the existence of the supernatural.
I wonder what your piano, one of your legs and your wife equates to in dollars………. :) xx
Dear Tim
I know what you did last summer.
You killed your pigeon and fed it too your cat. You sicko.
You did it on purpose to fatten the cat then sliced it open, stuffed it with chillis and peppers and bits of chicken SO YOU COULD EAT IT!!! (LIKE A PIE). You didnt even take the fur off!!
My silence will come at a price.
Of a messengar pigeon and a blue dyed hamster
Dont even think of backing out the deal because i have News of The World on speedial.
Hey man!
Hope you get this comment, I sent you a message!

You are the definition of amazing. Your silly song style coupled with your fantastic piano playing and singing makes your performances truly epic. I hope one day I will be privelaged enough to see you live here in the US. Please, if you venture over here I would love for you to stop in the St. Louis area.
Bristol SOLD OUT :'( I told my dad a week ago to book tickets (I’m a poor student who also lost her debit card so had no way of paying) and found out today you’ve sold out *cries sobs considers cutting wrists*
You are doing Swindon . . . Yey! *Puts knife away* if that fails theres always Cheltenham :) I’d happily go alone but figure you’d like the extra cash so dragging family along and relevant boyfriends :D
I showed my dad the Peace Anthem for Palestine song on youtube on a visit home, we were singing it for days.
Another reason I have to see you other than seeing you live is that I can persuade parents to buy me your cd’s, I was kinda shocked you weren’t on itunes.
You are awesome . . . that is all.
